Happy Labor Day!

Nobody calls it like former Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker. Enjoy.

The Gunners win at home against Man City. This win puts us into 3rd place for now. The goals were scored by Rosicky, Fabregas and Baptista. This gives Rosicky and Fabregas two goals in the last two games.

The last game was also a win against Bolton at home as well.

The next game is against the hated Tottenham. Hopefully we will beat them. Go Gunners!!!

Arsenal and Newcastle ended in a draw that was very unexciting and lacked any desire by both teams. They both played like they were two teams in the middle of the table who didn’t care about the rest of the campaign. This is very disturbing news for Gunners fans. We are in a battle for 4th place and need to be there for the possibility of CL next season.

The next game for Arsenal is big. We will be playing Bolton who is 2 points behind us in 5th place. A win for them would put them above us which is not acceptable for any gunners fan. So Saturday’s game might be the most important game this year. Come On Gunners. Go for the win.

We’ve drawn the New York Islanders for the 1st Round of the Playoffs. By God we can take them. I love Ted Nolan but he’s gonna have to go DOWN.

Yes there was a blip there. The other guy lost his shit and I found myself in the full on grips of Buffalo Sabre mania, and it was hard finding time to write about soccer even though I still followed what was going on (Bolton’s moving! Barca’s sort of OK!). But I’m over that because I realized that this is called The Buffalo Terrace, that hockey was just going to become part of this here blog’s existence, and that’s that.

It’s Stanley Cup Playoff Time. Prepare yourselves.

Wales v Ireland – Soccer – 1906

A little something for you on St. Patrick’s Day.

Aston Villa vs Arsenal

For you viewing pleasure, our first lucky goal and hopefully not our last.

Arsenal beats Aston Villa to take over third place. The game wasn’t pretty but effective enough to win. We battled hard and played good enough but we need to play better if we want to stay in third place. Hopefully, the next game against Everton we can play better and win. The game is a very important and a must win to maintain third and a streak of wins. We shall see if things go our way.

Messi Barcelona 3 vs 3 Real Madrid 10-3-2007

An absolute classic of the game. Messi is a genius!

A few reflections on Barca and Arsenal going out of the Champions League:

  1. There’s no question why The UEFA Champions League is the top annual European sporting competetition- the games, even the group stage games seem to take place on a higher plane, like the 3rd and 4th rounds of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
  2. Watching Barca crash out was actually painful to watch. I clutched my Barca scarf wrapped around my neck tightly, hoping for something to happen in the final moments for Barca to get the goal needed to go thru… and as it became more and more apparent that that something wasn’t going to happen… and the anguish grew inside until I had the EXACT SAME stricken look that the Barca fans wore at Anfield. And guess what folks- I don’t even feel that way for Buffalo Bills anymore.
  3. And when PSV suddenly scored that second goal thus killing Arsenal’s Chamions League dreams the Gunnersfan had the exact same suddenly crushed and mortified expression as the Gunners fans at the Emirates Stadium. The exact same crushing simultaneous disappointment felt on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.
  4. This is the genius of the game of soccer/football… that you can invest yourself without even knowing it in the fortunes of your team- a team located on another continent across the ocean… and feel these emotions, the bad and the good for and with your team. These aren’t local teams or hometown teams… these are soccer teams who’ve become part of you through satellite TV osmosis.
  5. Now think about how I’d feel if we had a soccer team in Buffalo, a team for US to support, for US to become part of…..
